Liverpool could be behind in the race for Xabi Alonso against Bayern Munich.

Xabi Alonso seems to be the most exciting young manager in the world. He is arguably the best coach in the world due to his team Bayer Leverksuen remaining undefeated in the season in all competitions. Leverkusen are first in the Bundesliga with 64 points and are 10 points clear off Bayern Munich who are second. Leverkusen will play Qarabag FK in the Europa League Round of 16, and they will play Dusseldorf in the DFB Pokal Semi final.

Liverpool seemed as the clear favoires to appoint Xabi Alonso this summer after Jurgen Klopp said he would leave the English club at the end of the season. Alonso has said in the past that he dreamed of returning to Liverpool as a coach and still has love for the club. While Liverpool seemed as favorite, Bayern Munich joined the conversation when they announced to part ways with Thomas Tuchel at the end of the season.

Xabi Alonso has a release clause in his contract with Bayer Leverkusen, and any club interested would need to pay the clause to appoint him this summer. Sky Sports Germany reports that should Alonso leave Bayer Leverkusen this summer, the Spanish manager is leaning towards a move to Bayern Munich. Talks have already taken place, not only with his management but also with Alonso himself. The Spaniard would cost a compensation fee of $16-27 million this summer.
