Liverpool are looking for the right man to replace Jurgen Klopp this summer as the German coach will leave at the end of the season. Liverpool seemed unprepared for the news of Klopp and is desperate to look for the right man. While Klopp seems irreplaceable, Liverpool is a big admirer of former Liverpool player Xabi Alonso coaching Bayer Leverkusen. Alonso has not only impressed Liverpool but other clubs in Europe. Bayern Munich has joined the race to appoint Alonso after announcing they will part ways with Thomas Tuchel this summer.

Liverpool was seen as the favorite to appoint Alonso this summer, but things have evened out since Bayern Munich entered the race. Some reports suggest that Bayern Munich has turned the tables as they have now become the new favorites to appoint Alonso this summer. Florian Plettenberg from Sky Sports Germany reported that Bayern Munich was the favorite to appoint Alonso ahead of Liverpool. Another reliable journalist, Gianluca Di Marzio from Sky Sports, also reports that Bayern Munich is leading the race to appoint Alonso.
Di Marzio said, "I thought Liverpool were ahead of Bayern two or three weeks ago, but now Bayern are moving quickly because they believe he's the perfect coach for the future. At the moment, Bayern are ahead of Liverpool."
Jason Burt from the Telegraph reports that while Bayern are in the lead, it certainly does not mean Liverpool is no longer in the race. Burt does report that their search for Jurgen Klopp’s successor is complicated by the fact they are also in the process of appointing a new sporting director. Liverpool is interested in bringing in their former sporting director, Michael Edwards, who signed crucial players like Virgil Van Dijk, Mohamed Salah, and Alisson Becker.

The Athletic reports that there is a chance that Alonso may stay put at Bayer Leverkusen instead of joining Bayern Munich or Liverpool next season. Jason Burt reports that it is still by no means certain that Alonso, who is contracted until June 2026, will leave this summer. He originally planned to stay and lead Bayer Leverkusen into the Champions League.
