FC Barcelona is ready to start its preseason tour as it prepares for the new season, but this time, the team will be managed by Hansi Flick. Last season, FC Barcelona went trophyless under Xavi Hernandez, and after lots of chaos about the future of the Spanish manager, it was decided by club president Joan Laporta to inform the Spanish manager that he would not coach the team this upcoming season.

It seemed like a controversial decision, as Laporta decided to sack him because of some comments Xavi made about the club struggling to make signings so the team could improve. Xavi first decided to leave the club in January but changed his mind towards the end of the season. Laporta did not please lots of FC Barcelona fans because of this decision, but he appointed Flick to the job.

During the presentation of Flick to the Catalan club, Joan Laporta remembered about Xavi and spoke thankfully about him. Laporta said, "It wasn't easy to say goodbye to him. I want to refer to Xavi Hernández since the decision for him not to continue as a coach has not been easy. It affects a person you love and have appreciation and has written in the history of the club with gold letters."

Laporta continued to be thankful towards Xavi for his couple of years as the FC Barcelona manager. The FC Barcelona president said, "We always put Barça ahead of any particular interest, of any player or coach. I want to thank Xavi and his staff for the good job of taking the team at a time of maximum difficulty."

Laporta then went on to explain his reasoning for picking Hansi Flick as the manager of the Barcelona team this upcoming season. Laporta said, "Together with the sports management we decided that the ideal person to coach the first team was Hansi Flick. Because of his culture of effort and work. He is the person most qualified to give this new impetus."

Flick's appointment was supported by the majority of the Barça fanbase since he was excellent as the manager of Bayern Munich a couple of years ago, especially when they won the treble in the 2019/2020 season. Laporta said, "We have placed all our trust in Hansi Flick. He is working knowing that Barça is a benchmark in the world of football with a certain style that defines us. We want to win and convince."

Hansi Flick on team training at FC Barcelona

Hansi Flick spoke about how the team training at FC Barcelona looks like under his management, which excites many fans. Flick said, "We are working a lot on the physical part, as well as the technical part. We have to work hard on defense, which is where everything is built from. Everyone has to assimilate this, it is important to play as a team."

Flick also praised the young players from La Masia, hinting that he will play the standout players from the academy if needed. Flick said, "We worked very hard from the first day in training. Each player wants to give 100% to show that they can play. The quality of the 16 or 17-year-olds from La Masia is incredible."
