The Saudi Pro League has been growing over the past year since Cristiano Ronaldo joined Al Nassr at the start of 2023. The move surprised many football fans because the Portuguese striker decided to play there and the amount of money the Saudi clubs offered for players and to the players. Other stars have arrived at the Saudi Pro League, like Karim Benzema and Neymar Jr. Now the next star player the league wants to bring in is Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne. When asked about potentially joining the Saudi Pro League soon, De Bruyne worried Pep Guardiola and Man City with his response. The Belgian midfielder said, “If I play in Saudi for two years, I’ll be able to earn an incredible amount. Before that, I had to play football for 15 years, and I may not even reach that amount yet. You have to think about what that could mean next.”

De Bruyne continued to scare Guardiola and Manchester City fans, saying he would need to be open to trying something new and playing somewhere else, like Saudi Arabia. The Man City midfielder said, “Saudi? At my age, you have to be open to everything. You’re talking about incredible amounts of money in the last stage of my career; you have to think about that. For my wife, an exotic adventure is okay. I have to think about my future.”

Pep Guardiola wants to keep the same team for next season, and De Bruyne is the centerpiece of the squad. The Belgian midfielder missed most of the first half of the season due to injury, but he remains arguably the most important player in the Man City team. De Bruyne played a total of 26 matches across all competitions, where he scored six goals and provided 18 assists. His contract with Manchester City expires in the summer of 2025.

Kevin De Bruyne on staying at Manchester City

The Belgian midfielder doesn’t completely shut the doors of staying at Manchester City for longer, and the club will reportedly offer De Bruyne a new contract. De Bruyne is 32 years old and will turn 33 on June 28th. De Bruyne said, “For [my wife] Michèle, an exotic adventure is okay. These are also conversations that we are increasingly having as a family. I still have one year left on my contract, so I have to think about what could happen.”

He continues by saying, “My eldest [son] is now eight years old and knows nothing but England. He also asks how long I will play for Man City. Once the moment comes, we will have to deal with it in a certain way.” De Bruyne has been at Manchester City since 2015 when he signed for more than $76 million from VFL Wolfsburg.
