Botafogo's majority shareholder, Juan Textor, has expressed his views on Major League Soccer during a recent interview at the "Olé Sport Summit" in Buenos Aires. The American businessman, who has been instrumental in the revitalization of the Brazilian club, didn't hold back in his assessment of the North American league.

Textor, who has been praised for his investments in Botafogo and Lyon, shared his thoughts on the MLS during a Q&A session. When asked about how he discovered Thiago Almada, the talented Argentine midfielder now playing for Botafogo, Textor took the opportunity to highlight some of the differences between Brazilian and American football.

Botafogo Boss Criticizes MLS, Lauds Almada Signing

"I'm not a fan of the MLS rules," Textor stated bluntly. "I think there are some things they could learn from the Brazilian league. For example, the way they handle player contracts and the salary cap can be quite restrictive. In Brazil, we have a more flexible system that allows for more creativity and innovation."

Textor's comments come as no surprise to those who have followed his involvement in Brazilian football. The American businessman has been vocal about his desire to modernize the sport in Brazil and has often clashed with traditionalists. While he has praised many aspects of Brazilian football, he has been critical of the country's football federation and the way the game is managed.

Despite his criticisms of the MLS, Textor was full of praise for Almada. "Thiago is an incredible talent," he said. "We were fortunate to be able to bring him to Botafogo. He has a bright future ahead of him."

Textor's comments are likely to generate debate among football fans and analysts. While some may agree with his assessment of the MLS, others will argue that the North American league has made significant strides in recent years and is now one of the most competitive in the world.
