Real Madrid has been successful with many transfers that they wanted, but sometimes that is not the case, and it happened this summer. While Los Blancos managed to sign Kylian Mbappé this summer as a free transfer, the club couldn't sign Leny Yoro. The French defender was wanted by the Spanish giants, and the player was reportedly open to joining the club as well. Real Madrid was outbid by Manchester United, who offered more than $60 million to Lille for the player.

Yoro already made his debut for Man United as he played in the 2-0 win against Rangers FC in a friendly match during the preseason. Carlo Ancelotti is satisfied with his current squad and is happy with the defender in the team, but reports from Italy suggest that Real Madrid will go after a defender since they missed out on Leny Yoro.

La Gazzetta dello Sport reports that Real Madrid is interested in former Borussia Dortmund defender Mats Hummels this summer. The German defender is currently a free agent as his contract with Borussia Dortmund expired on June 30th. He played in the Champions League final against Real Madrid in June. Real Madrid remain confident in being able to sign another player as a free agent.

Hummels wanted to continue at Borussia Dortmund, but since the club did not offer a contract extension, many clubs have shown interest. There were reports that his next destination was Italy, as AC Milan and Bologna were interested. These new reports suggesting that Real Madrid is interested have stalled discussions with Bologna.

Other reports in Germany suggest the opposite, as Hummels to Real Madrid may have quickly cooled down. Hummels is 35 years old and will turn 36 in December. Despite his age, he showed bright performances for Borussia Dortmund, who had an incredible season in the Champions League by reaching the final and giving Real Madrid a close game, especially in the first half at Wembley Stadium. Hummels left Dortmund as a club legend by helping them reach another Champions League final in the last ten years, but they were unlucky not to win it.

Mats Hummels' 23/24 season with Borussia Dortmund

Mats Hummels played a total of 40 matches for Borussia Dortmund this past season across all competitions. He scored four goals and provided one assist. He played in 25 Bundesliga matches and played 13 Champions League matches. He scored three goals in the Bundesliga and one in the Champions League.

Hummels scored in the Champions League semifinals against Paris Saint Germain. He scored at the Parc des Princes as they defeated PSG 2-0 on aggregate to clinch their place in the Champions League final against Real Madrid at Wembley Stadium. He was one of the best defenders in the Champions League this past season, and many were impressed to see Hummels showcase his ability at an older age. Hummels is at the end of his career and would like to continue playing football.
