Manchester United has yet to decide whether to sack Erik Ten Hag this summer, but if they do, there are many options to choose from. Zinedine Zidane has been a name to likely replace Ten Hag this summer since the French manager is available. The French manager doesn’t seem as eager to join a club next season compared to other managers available in the market. A name that has been linked to Manchester United is Xavi Hernandez. The Spanish manager has just parted ways with FC Barcelona. Diario AS reports that while Xavi is planning to have a sabbatical year, Man United is keeping an eye on Xavi’s situation and could soon approach him for the job. AC Milan is also interested in Xavi, and the Spanish manager reportedly rejected the job to become the manager of the South Korean national team. Xavi reportedly earned $8.5 million at FC Barcelona and Ten Hag earned around $11.2 million. Xavi could earn in between that salary number next season if he coaches Manchester United.

Regardless of whether Xavi arrives or Ten Hag stays, they wouldn’t be influential in the transfer window. Rich Fay reports that Man United’s manager will have less influence over transfer decisions as part of the club’s new strategy going forward. Erik Ten Hag’s prior recruitment power will be taken away from him if he remains in the job.

Manchester United wasn’t the only Premier League club interested in appointing Xavi this summer. A couple of days ago, Xavi was reportedly having a meeting with Chelsea, who showed interest in the manager after parting ways with Mauricio Pochettino. Xavi is not likely to take the Chelsea job as the London club has Enzo Maresca set to become their next head coach.

Xavi’s track record with FC Barcelona as manager

Xavi became the manager of FC Barcelona in late 2021 and ended his tenure at the end of the 23/24 season. He coached a total of 143 matches for the club as he led them to 91 wins, 23 draws, and 29 losses. As the manager of FC Barcelona, he won the La Liga title and the Spanish Super Cup.
