Some reports online suggest that Cristiano Ronaldo could join the new champions from Europe, the Bundesliga's Bayer Leverkusen. Xabi Alonso and his Leverkusen team made history as the club won its first Bundesliga title yesterday. Bayer Leverkusen also equals a record for the longest unbeaten run in Europe's top 10 leagues in all competitions since 2000. Bayer Leverkusen are unbeaten in 43 games this season and now Ronaldo could join them to then set their sights on winning the Champions League next season.
It would be an easy adaptation for Ronaldo as he is a good friend of Xabi Alonso. The pair were teammates at Real Madrid from 2009 to 2014, and the two arrived in the same transfer window with the Spanish giants. Xabi Alonso spoke about playing with Ronaldo at Real Madrid and said, "Cristiano made everything very easy. I get the ball, I find him and he used to do his individual action to score."
Ronaldo may also want to join Bayer Leverkusen to get revenge against Bayern Munich. In 2022, reports were suggesting that Ronaldo was an option to join the German giants, but Bayern Munich rejected the chance to sign him. Bayern's director, Oliver Kahn, spoke about why the club rejected signing him. Kahn said, "We discussed about Cristiano Ronaldo internally - I consider him one of greatest footballers ever. Then we came to conclusion that, despite appreciation for Cristiano, he would not fit into our philosophy in the current situation."
Ronaldo may arrive at a team that could win a treble this season. Leverkusen just won the Bundesliga, but they will play the DFB Pokal final on May 25th against 1. FC Kaiserslautern at the Olympiastadion Berlin stadium. They will also chase for the Europa League and are currently beating West Ham United 2-0 on aggregate in the quarterfinals.
