Inter Miami has one of the biggest sports stars on the planet, Lionel Messi, and the club tries to make sure to build a solid team around him so they can be competitive in the MLS. Messi and his good friends like Sergio Busquets, Jordi Alba, and Luis Suarez are tearing it up in the MLS, and now the Argentine star could have another good friend in the team soon. Angel Di Maria has caused interest in Inter Miami, and the player has reportedly reached an agreement to join Inter Miami. The player planned to join the club next year and play for his boyhood club, Rosario Central, this summer, but the situation in his town is scary. Di Maria will likely join Inter Miami this summer and not join Rosario Central because of a dangerous cartel threatening the player. The Rosario Cartel reportedly shot up a service station in Rosario and left a sign that said “We are waiting for you, Di María,” with the signature of “Los Rosarinos.”

A few months ago, Di Maria and his family were threatened by the cartel from Rosario. The message they sent read, “Tell your son Ángel not to return to Rosario because otherwise, we will ruin everything by kil**ng a family member. Not even [Santa Fé governor] Pullaro will save you.” Diego Monroig from ESPN reported that the Argentina National Team camp has been affected by the threats Di María’s family has received.

Di Maria made his professional debut with Rosario Central and played a total of 39 matches with the Argentine club across all competitions. He scored six goals and provided two assists for his boyhood club, and he wished to return this summer. It seems like the move will not be possible after the recent threat he received.

Where would Di Maria play at Inter Miami?

Di Maria often plays as a right winger, and he played in that position last season with Benfica. The Argentine winger would have to change his position since Messi usually plays in that position as well. Inter Miami currently has Messi and Suarez as the two strikers, but if Di Maria arrives, Messi will likely play on the right side, Di Maria will shift to the left side, and Suarez will be the main striker.
