Despite the controversy surrounding the Ballon d'Or award, with many questioning Rodri’s win over Vinícius Júnior, a new debate has emerged regarding Neymar’s place among the world’s football elite. Recently, the Brazilian star has found himself back in the limelight, especially with talks of a potential return to Santos in Brazil.
Neymar's recent remarks have sparked fresh conversation, particularly following the surprising endorsement from Italian legend Gianluigi Buffon. In an interview with Corriere Della Sera, Buffon was asked to compare his experiences with various football greats. His response left many stunned as he placed Neymar above football icons like Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Andrés Iniesta.
Buffon, who has had the privilege of playing alongside and against some of the finest players in history, did not hesitate to name Neymar as the best player he had ever faced. He cited not only Neymar’s on-field abilities but also his personal qualities.
"I’ve played with three generations: Zidane, Messi, Ronaldo, Iniesta... but I would choose Neymar. He is the best I’ve faced," Buffon revealed. The veteran goalkeeper went even further, claiming that Neymar "should have won five Ballon d'Ors" despite the setbacks from injuries in recent years.
As rumors of Neymar’s potential return to Santos swirl, his representative, Pini Zahavi, was quick to address these speculations. Zahavi clarified that Neymar, who is currently under contract with Al-Hilal in Saudi Arabia, is not planning a move anytime soon.
“There are no talks about Neymar leaving Al-Hilal. He is under contract and is happy there. Only Neymar’s father and I can speak about his future," Zahavi confirmed.
