Real Madrid is arguably the greatest football club of all time, and in the past couple of years, they have been one of the best-run clubs in the world. One of those reasons is their club president, Florentino Perez. The club won two Champions League trophies in the last three years.
The club has had many legendary players over the years, but one that didn't get a proper goodbye was Cristiano Ronaldo. Rumors suggested that the Portuguese striker's relationship with Perez was broken, and CR7 was never given a proper tribute at the Santiago Bernabeu for all of his achievements at the club. Ronaldo is arguably the greatest player in the history of Real Madrid, as he is the top goalscorer of the club.
Perez reportedly wants Ronaldo to come to the Santiago Bernabeu to be honored by Real Madrid fans. The president wants to organize a friendly match between Real Madrid and Al Nassr for the Santiago Bernabeu Cup, as how the club organized in the past. A friendly match could not be held this summer as the team will be playing in the UEFA Super Cup against Atalanta on August 10th.
The last Santiago Bernabeu Cup final match was in 2018 when Real Madrid defeated AC Milan 3-1 at their stadium. Real Madrid hosted this friendly cup game 39 times, and Los Blancos won it 28 times. This would have been a great way to have Ronaldo play at the Santiago Bernabeu one last time and be given a tribute that he still deserves.
Real Madrid have done something similar for a legend in the past to honor them. In 2013, Real Madrid faced Al Saad so the fans could honor Raul Gonzalez. Real Madrid defeated Al Saad 5-0, with Raul playing for the Spanish club for one last time. Raul was celebrated by the Real Madrid players and the fans at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Cristiano Ronaldo continues to relax and enjoy his vacation with his family at the Red Sea Project, along with his children and his girlfriend, Georgina Rodriguez. The Portuguese striker had a long season at Al Nassr and also played in EURO 2024 with the Portuguese national team.
Portugal was eliminated in the quarterfinals by France as they lost 5-3 on penalties. Ronaldo will soon reunite with the Al Nassr team, who are currently on preseason in Portugal. Al Nassr's first competitive match of the new season is in the Saudi Super Cup semifinal against Al Taawoun.
