Flick has arrived but already faces a huge problem, the star player FC Barcelona could lose this summer that upsets fans

FC Barcelona will start a whole new process under Hansi Flick this summer, as a couple of days ago, the training preseason began. Players who did not feature in the previous season are back from loan spells and demonstrating why they should be considered. Other star players if they are on vacation or with their national teams.

Hansi Flick arrived to FC Barcelona this season, and he have to take decision since the first moment. Let's remember that Flick won the trust of Joan Laporta, specially after his latest experiences. Hansi Flick was Joachim Low assistant at the Germany national team for many years. He participated in the Euros 2008 and 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

He was also part of the German squad who won the World Cup in Brazil 2014. After that experience, and some years as Sport Director for the German federation, he arrived to Bayern Munich. In the German club he had one of the greatest seasons in the history. He won six trophies in the same year, Bundesliga, German Cup, German Super Cup, UEFA Champions League, UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup.

In that same season he produced one of the most humiliating defeats in Barcelona's history, when Bayern defeated them in the quarter finals of the UEFA Champions League by 8-2. Thanks for his great performances he was announced as the main coach for the Germany national team a year after.

He drived Germany to the 2022 Qatar World Cup. They were knocked out in the group stage, which was a surprise for everybody. They shared the group with Spain, Japan and Costa Rica. Even though the German Federation gave him a new opportunity to stay, but they finally fired him in September 2023.

Since then Flick has been not working, and this new experience at FC Barcelona has all his fans excited, as they consider him one of the greatest coaches in the market.

Flick will have a busy summer as he looks to build a team strong enough to challenge for La Liga and the Champions League next season. The German coach may have already received the bad news, and now there are concerns within the club about a certain player who was crucial for FC Barcelona this past season. Ilkay Gundogan’s future at Barca is questioned due to a certain rule in La Liga that the Catalan club has to follow.

According to Sport, Barça and more specifically Flick want to know what Gundogan's intentions are. His quality is appreciated, but there is a need for fair play, and if he wants to leave, they would make things easier for him. The German midfielder is willing to stay, but his departure could happen.

Gundogan has played 51 matches for FC Barcelona this past season, which was also his debut season. He scored five goals and provided 14 assists across all competitions. He played 36 matches in La Liga, where he scored five goals and provided nine assists. The German midfielder played in La Liga, the Champions League, the Copa Del Rey, and the Spanish Super Cup.

Gundogan impressed many Barcelona fans this past season, and he earned a call up to the German national team for the EUROS. Ahead of key players like Manuel Neuer, Toni Kroos, and Thomas Muller, Gundogan was given the captain armband for the tournament.

Gundogan at EURO 2024

Ilkay Gundogan played and started in all of Germany's five matches at the EUROS. He scored one goal in the tournament and provided an assist. He scored and assisted in the 2-0 win against Hungary in the group stage. Germany was eliminated by Spain in the quarterfinals of the competition.
