David Beckham has long been a vocal advocate for women's football, with his passion reignited after moving to Los Angeles, where he observed the widespread popularity of the sport among young girls. In a past interview with Variety, he admitted, "I wouldn’t say I was jealous, but I did feel a bit envious of how big women’s football is here."

His daughter Harper, a football enthusiast and fan of the English women’s national team, has been central to his advocacy. Beckham recently reiterated his support during the World Economic Forum, emphasizing the need for action, not just words, to promote women’s football.

"Opportunities, Actions, and Investment"

Speaking at the forum, Beckham declared, "Women need more than words; they need opportunities, actions, and investment." He expressed his hopes for a better future for his daughter, stating, "I want Harper to have the same rights as her brothers, and that should be true for every girl around the world." Beckham concluded with a heartfelt wish: "I hope Harper grows up in a world where being a girl doesn’t determine what you can do, where you can go, or who you can become."

Beckham has consistently shown his support for women's football, attending pivotal events like the 2022 UEFA Women's Euro in England, which inspired a new generation of girls, including Harper. He also attended the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup in France, supporting the English team, then coached by his friend and former teammate Phil Neville.

A Visible Advocate During Major Tournaments

Beckham’s presence is almost guaranteed when England competes on the global stage. Ahead of the 2023 Women's World Cup semifinal against Australia, he appeared alongside Harper in a motivational video for the national team. "It’s been a spectacular tournament. It’s been so fun to watch, and we’re all so proud. It’s been incredible seeing you play as a team, so keep it up. Good luck in the next match; know that the whole nation supports you," Beckham shared.

Earlier that year, before England departed for the tournament in Australia and New Zealand, Beckham teamed up with Adidas and Alessia Russo, Arsenal star and England forward, to discuss the impact of the Lionesses. He praised the team for inspiring the UK following their Euro victory, adding, "Watching their talent and passion is contagious. My daughter talked about it at school and with her friends—it was incredible to see her inspired by what these women achieved."

A Vision for the Future in Miami

Beckham’s admiration for women’s football may soon translate into tangible action. As co-owner of Inter Miami, he revealed in his Variety interview that he hopes to establish a women’s team in Miami. "It’s been a tough few years, and there’s a lot to do, but that’s our plan," Beckham shared, reaffirming a vision he has held for years.
