As Wayne Rooney contemplates his next move after parting ways with Plymouth Argyle, former Manchester United defender Wes Brown has weighed in on his potential return to Old Trafford. Brown believes Rooney’s vast experience and striking prowess could make him a valuable addition to United’s coaching staff, particularly in guiding the club’s young attackers.

Rooney, who was sacked from his managerial role at Plymouth after a nine-match winless streak, might be considering a break before re-entering football. Yet, Brown is adamant that his former teammate could thrive as a specialized striking coach, offering expertise that few can match.

Rooney's Fit as a Striking Coach

In an interview with the Sports Daily (via the Mirror), Brown praised Rooney’s unique understanding of the game, citing his dual strengths as both a prolific goal-scorer and an exceptional playmaker. He highlighted how Rooney’s insights into movement and finishing could greatly benefit emerging talents like Rasmus Højlund, who is currently leading the line at United.

“Wayne was one of the best goal-scorers we’ve ever seen, and he had an incredible knack for creating opportunities too,” Brown explained. “If he decided to focus on coaching strikers, he’d be brilliant at helping young forwards refine their movement and decision-making.”

Drawing from Experience

Brown recalled his own playing days, noting how advice from seasoned players like Laurent Blanc positively impacted his career. He suggested that Rooney’s presence could similarly elevate United’s current squad. “Even small tips from a legend can make a huge difference,” Brown said. “If Wayne were available to mentor, I’m sure every striker would jump at the chance to learn from him.”

While there’s no confirmation of Rooney’s immediate plans, Brown’s vision for his former teammate paints an intriguing picture for Manchester United. Whether the club would consider such a move remains to be seen, but Rooney’s potential impact on their struggling attack is undeniable.
