Real Madrid has already secured its place among the top 24 teams in the Champions League, ensuring at least a spot in the playoff round before the final matchday. However, not all top European clubs are in the same position, and Carlo Ancelotti would not mind seeing one team eliminated next week.

On Wednesday, Madrid clinched a resounding 5-1 victory over Red Bull Salzburg in their penultimate group-stage match, with goals from Rodrygo (x2), Mbappé, and Vinicius (x2). This result guaranteed them a spot in the playoffs, which would secure their progress to the Round of 16.

Ancelotti’s Opinion on Manchester City’s Champions League Fate

However, Manchester City is not in a secure position. Following a 4-2 loss to PSG, City finds itself outside the top 24 and in danger of not qualifying for the playoffs. Despite this, they still have a chance to reach the knockout rounds, with a win in their final match against Club Brugge potentially securing their place.

When asked about City’s situation in a press conference, Ancelotti didn’t hide his preference for their elimination. "Manchester City? They are one of the favorites to win the Champions League again, and it would be good news if they don't qualify," he stated.

The Fate of Manchester City in the Champions League

While Manchester City’s qualification is still uncertain, Ancelotti’s words reflect the competitive nature of the Champions League, where even the top teams must fight to advance. City will have to win against Club Brugge on the final matchday to have a chance of reaching the playoffs and avoiding elimination from the prestigious competition.
