FC Barcelona and Nike are set to part ways after the sponsorship started back in 1998. Barcelona and Nike have been struggling to find an agreement for a renewal contract for a while due to the Catalan club asking for more money. The current deal with Nike ends in 2028, but the club has been looking at other companies that could offer more. Puma has been set as the favorite to take over soon, but talks have been put at a halt after an idea from FC Barcelona president Joan Laporta.

Sport reports that FC Barcelona is about to make a historic decision by terminating its contract with Nike and creating Barça's own brand to manufacture the jerseys. This will mean that the club will sponsor itself & keep 100% of the profits. Puma is offering more than $105 million to sponsor the jersey, but Laporta believes creating their brand will generate more for the club. The club will manufacture in-house — big companies have been contacted for it. Production and distribution costs would have to be assumed. The money from the sales would go entirely to Barça.

Laporta has reportedly already met with different companies that could help Barcelona create its own brand to make its own uniforms. Barcelona is very close to breaking the contract with Nike, but they want to do it in a friendly way. Nike could sue the club for breach of contract if they do not do it this way. If Barcelona does not terminate its contract in a friendly way with Nike and the American company sues them for breach of contract, Barça is convinced that they would do well since they would not change Nike for another brand but would create their own brand.
