The Champions League is back, and with it comes a rematch of last season’s final: Real Madrid vs. Borussia Dortmund. However, this time around, both teams find themselves in a rather precarious situation.

Since the arrival of Kylian Mbappé, Real Madrid’s play has become less collective and more reliant on individual brilliance. The team that was once a model of consistency has shown signs of vulnerability, with surprising losses to teams like Celta, Alavés, and Las Palmas. Injuries to key players like Alaba, Brahim Díaz, and, most significantly, Dani Carvajal, have further compounded the team’s problems.

Despite these challenges, Real Madrid boasts an impressive home record in the Champions League. They haven’t lost at the Santiago Bernabéu in the competition since 2022, when they were defeated by Chelsea. This strong home form will be crucial as they look to turn their season around.

Borussia Dortmund: Defensive Woes

While Borussia Dortmund currently leads their Champions League group, their performances have been far from convincing. Their victories against Brugge and Celtic were against weaker opposition, and their domestic form has been inconsistent. The team has struggled defensively, conceding 12 goals in their first seven Bundesliga matches.

Key players like Couto, Reyna, Duranville, and Adeyemi will be missing from the match, further weakening Dortmund’s squad. Adeyemi, in particular, has been a key goal-scorer for the team.

Both Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund will be desperate for a win in this match. A victory could provide a much-needed boost to their respective seasons. With both teams facing injury concerns and struggling for form, it’s difficult to predict a clear winner. However, the match is sure to be a thrilling encounter between two of Europe’s biggest clubs.
