Kylian Mbappé made his dream move to Real Madrid when the Spanish club announced last week that the French star would be playing for them next season. While Mbappé will not be earning a very high salary like the one he earned at PSG, he will still be paid among the best in the Real Madrid squad and in La Liga. Despite his salary, Mbappé has some businesses that help him gain more, as he has sponsorships from big companies like Dior, Rimowa, and Hublot. He has also partnered with Nike since 2006 and Oakley, the American sunglasses brand. According to Portafolio, Mbappé earns between $25 and $30 million every year from sponsorships alone. He could be earning even more with more brands potentially interested in him since his move to Real Madrid. A Ballon d’Or award would also boost his value of fortune as Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo are multiple Ballon d’Or winners and remain the best-paid athletes in the world.
Another deal that Mbappé had to get sorted was the distribution of his image rights. The Real Madrid president, Florentino Perez, agreed on the image rights being distributed: 30% for the club and 70% for the player, according to L’ Équipe. This is a special deal for Mbappé as Real Madrid tends to share the image right at 50% for the player and the club.
Mbappé joins Real Madrid, which makes things a little awkward as the Spanish club is sponsored by Adidas while the French star is a Nike Athlete. Something similar has happened before as Lionel Messi was an Adidas player but played for FC Barcelona, which has been sponsored by Nike for many years. A star player in Real Madrid that already represents Nike is Vinicius Jr.
Mbappé will likely play his first game in the UEFA Super Cup against Atalanta on August 14 at the National Stadium Warsaw. In the meantime, the French star will be playing in EUROS 2024 with the French national team. If Mbappé and France are eliminated early, he could play in a preseason game with Real Madrid in the US.
