On April 8, 2010, it was announced that Manchester United had reached an agreement with Chivas Guadalajara to acquire the rights to Mexican striker Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez, in a move that came as a surprise as there were never any rumors about it.
With a photo at Old Trafford stadium and next to Sir Alex Ferguson, Chicharito appeared holding the "Red Devils" shirt and thus arrived at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, where he came off the bench to score goals for the Mexican National Team.
How much does Javier ‘Chicharito’ Hernandez earn?
Why is Javier Hernández called Chicharito?
Hernandez then landed on his feet with the Red Devils, scoring goals since his arrival and winning over the fans with his simplicity. The former Chiva continued his rise to win the Premier League and play in the Champions League Final in an unforgettable debut campaign in which he scored a total of 20 goals, rising to the status of a star in England.
The "Super Sub" was one of Javier Hernandez's nicknames. Perhaps a nickname no player would want because of the lack of starts with the first team. This was one of the reasons why the striker decided to leave Manchester United, despite the goals he scored.
But this was not the only reason for his departure. In an interview he stated that he felt unappreciated: “They didn't want me there at the club. It's as simple as that” expressed the striker, who was also on loan at Real Madrid, although usually on the bench.
"The most important thing for me was to be on the pitch, to have an important role. Obviously, to have good results for the team," added 'Chicharito' Hernández who, as remembered, performed well with Manchester United.
The Mexican was relegated to the bench and although playing for United was a dream, he knew he had to look for other opportunities to get more minutes. That was how he understood that he needed to leave the team and Bayer Leverkusen gave him that option.
Any player in his right mind would give anything to play for Manchester United and above all, he would do even more to stay in the team, but Javier Hernandez did not think the same way. There came a time when he wanted to leave, it was the only thing he needed and that's when he migrated to the Bundesliga.
CH14's arrival in the Bundesliga came as a surprise after a match in Belgium where the Red Devils played a European competition match and where the former manager of the German club, Jonas Boldt was present. He had little hope of recruiting him: “I'll be honest, I didn't have the feeling that I was going to be able to take him to Leverkusen, I started to have contact with his agent and we realized that with the Manchester United team he didn't play” he said.
The reality is that it was the easiest thing in the world because 'Chicharito' himself asked for his departure.
"Javier told me: 'I want to get out of here because the coach doesn't use me'. We were only three days in the transfer market and I immediately went to Manchester to finalize the transfer," said the former manager of the 'Aspirins'.
When the Bayer Leverkusen manager recalled the signing of 'Chicharito', he said that the system of play was something that favored him a lot, to the point of scoring 28 goals in two seasons in the Bundesliga. It was not such a bad decision after all for the Mexican.
