When we talk about the richest football players in the world, we imagine Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi or Neymar. However, there is a player that few take into account and who is little known at a sporting level, but curiously is the one with the highest fortune.
Faiq Bolkiah, who plays for Thailand's Chonburi FC and was born in the city of Los Angeles, is known to be the richest soccer player in the world, with a fortune that far exceeds what Cristiano Ronaldo or Messi have earned, or even anyone else who has ever stepped on a playing field.
The highest paid players in the world
The only player who tolerates Kylian Mbappé at PSG, neither Messi nor Neymar
His fortune is an astounding $20 billion dollars. He is one of the 17 children of Prince Jefri Bolkiah, brother of the Sultan of Brunei, Muda Hassanal Bolkiah and is in line for the throne in that nation.
His father, had to move to the United States as he was embroiled in a public scandal over a case of embezzlement of sultanate funds. Eventually, the family went to England, where the heir became the first footballer in the royal family, almost on a sporting whim. In 2009, he became part of Southampton's youth team. In 2014, he arrived at Chelsea where he was with the U18s and never managed to make his debut with the first team.
He has practically gone through big clubs in Europe, without even being able to make his debut with the first team. He played for Leicester City, Southampton, Chelsea, but never managed to play a Premier League game. He is currently playing in Thailand after Maritimo Portugal released him without a single minute under his belt.
In October 2016 he made his debut for the Brunei senior national team in that year's Suzuki AFF Cup qualifier against East Timor, which ended 2-1 in his team's favor. This is the only official match he played for the national team and in order to fulfill that dream he had to become a Bruneian national.
The 23-year-old has only one assist in his entire playing career. It was in the Youth League, during a match between Leicester City and Belgian side Brugge. However, he has never managed to score a goal and his activity has been practically nil.
