Kylian Mbappe's contract extension until 2025 at Paris Saint-Germain presents a hammer-blow to Real Madrid's chances of signing him. It is also a statement of intent from the PSG hierarchy regarding the player they feel will carry the club into the future. Club president Nassir Al-Khelaifi stated that, “By extending with Paris Saint-Germain, he becomes the cornerstone of the club's project for the years to come, on and off the pitch.”

Since his arrival from Monaco in 2017, Mbappe has scored 168 goals in 268 games. He has won five French titles, three French cups and two French League Cups. He has won the World Cup and Nations League with France while scoring 26 goals in 54 caps. He has been named Ligue 1 Player of the Year three times and won Best Young Player at the 2018 World Cup. Because of these accomplishments, Al-Khelaifi believes Mbappe will “open the most beautiful pages of our history.”

The player has no doubt he can continue his development in Paris while chasing the biggest title in club football, the UEFA Champions League: “I am convinced that here I can continue to grow within a club which gives itself the means to perform at the highest level.” For the investment in Mbappe to be justified, he and his teammates will have to conquer Europe in the next three attempts, then Madrid can come calling again.

Can Mbappe deliver the Champions League before 2025?

The most expensive agreement in the history of football will cost the Qatari owner 435 million euros. Mbappe will get 100 million just for rejecting Madrid and accepting PSG's proposal. He will net another 50 million a year over three seasons for a total of 150 million. This will go up to 300 million through taxation. PSG also have to pay Monaco a 35 million contract renewal fee. Fighting off the Spanish giants for the Frenchman's signature will not be cheap for the French side.
