Kylian Mbappé was PSG's biggest “signing” this summer. After a very long tug-of-war, the Parisian club managed to convince the striker to turn down Real Madrid and sign his renewal to keep him in Paris.
The Frenchman agreed a multimillion-dollar contract until 2025 after the President of the Republic of France himself, Emmanuel Macron, pressured him to stay. This is how Mbappé explains it in an interview in The New York Times.

Galtier and Mbappé criticized for their cynical reaction at a press conference
"I never imagined that I was going to talk to the president about my future, about the future of my career, so it's kind of crazy, really kind of crazy," the player explained. "He told me, 'I want you to stay. I don't want you to leave now. You're very important for the country.' When the president tells you that, that counts," he added.
With Real Madrid more on the prowl than ever, Macron insisted to Mbappé he stayed: "You have time, you can stay another little bit.”
And speaking of the Madrid club, Mbappé did not hesitate to once again open the door to playing at the Santiago Bernabeu in the future. "You never know what's going to happen. I've never been there but it feels like it's my home or something," he indicated.
