According to information from Mundo Deportivo, 'CR7' could pay a millionaire indemnity to Manchester United, if he decides to terminate his contract with the club, as stated in Article 17 of the Player Transfer Regulations and Statute.

"The compensation for non-compliance shall be calculated considering national legislation, the characteristics of the sport and other objective criteria," the regulations state. Cristiano would initially have to pay Manchester United a total of 23 million euros, which is what he receives per season, plus other calculations, in the absence of just cause to terminate his contract.

Cristiano Ronaldo would be suspended

Cristiano Ronaldo's attitude in recent days with Manchester United has not been the best. If the Portuguese player takes the decision to terminate his contract unilaterally, he would also risk a harsh suspension, which would leave him out of the Qatar 2022 World Cup.

The same source points out that FIFA could impose a sanction of four to six months without playing any official matches. That would leave him with no chance of playing in the World Cup and practically no chance of returning to soccer until 2023.
