The summer transfer window is once again being dominated by the Premier League. The investment of English clubs far exceeds that of the other four major European leagues. LaLiga is in fourth place, ahead of France's Ligue 1, according to transfermarkt.es data.

It is a demonstration of the English league's financial muscle as, for yet another summer. Manchester City, Chelsea and company have spent 1.16 billion euros. Of course, the restraint in spending is also noticeable in England as the figure for this summer 2022 does not reach what was spent in the previous season 2019-20 (1.7 billion) and, above all, 2017-18, in which the English invested 2.16 billion euros in new players.

Another fact that shows the power of the Premier is that, since the 2014-15 season, its spending on transfers does not fall below the €1 billion barrier. Looking at the investment rankings of the Big Five leagues, Italy's Serie A ranks second (€498.18 million), followed by the German Bundesliga (378.43 million), Spain's LaLiga (305.65 million) and, closing the ranking, France's Ligue 1 (268.65 million). In this summer campaign, PSG does not seem to be in the mood for big spending, unlike in the past.

The heavyweights to the rescue of La Liga

The scenario for LaLiga is undoubtedly one of cost containment. Only the competition's two big two, Real Madrid and Barcelona, are showing economic muscle, rubbing shoulders with the best teams in Europe.

The arrival of Tchouaméni, Raphinha and Lewandowski... represent 60% of the Spanish teams' spending in the summer of 2022.
