Kylian Mbappe is a global soccer icon, and PSG is well aware of his value. The French Team had a rocky start to the season amid ongoing uncertainty about Mbappe's future. Tensions within the club were rising as the Frenchman's contractual situation remained unresolved.

Many domestic and international media outlets believed that the chances of Mbappe returning to play for Paris were slim. There were even rumors that the club wouldn't allow him to play unless he renewed as soon as possible.

However, French newspaper L'Equipe reported that both parties reached an agreement for the 24-year-old forward to rejoin the team. In a significant gesture, Mbappe reportedly gave up his loyalty bonus, saving the club approximately $100 million.

This agreement represents a temporary truce between Kylian Mbappe and PSG, for now. It appears that Mbappe's contract renewal is not only a soccer matter but also an economic one.

The Reason Al Khelaifi Prioritizes the Renewal

According to Defensa Central, Ligue 1 generates just over $620 million annually, and having a world-class player like Kylian can significantly boost its revenues. If this trend continues, it's projected that the league's rights could reach $1 billion by 2024. This explains the insistence of both PSG's president and even French President Emmanuel Macron, who reportedly convinced the 2018 World Cup champion to renew with the club last summer. Nevertheless,  L'Equipe claims that Mbappe's desire is to leave PSG as a free agent in 2024.
