Los Blancos hadn’t won a European title since the 2017-18 season, when they also beat Liverpool, although on that occasion the score was 3-1, closer to what’s expected from two of the most dangerous teams nowadays.

On that occasion, Karim Benzema opened the score after 51 minutes, but Sadio Mané equalize the game four minutes later. Real Madrid ended up winning that game thanks to a brace scored by Gareth Bale, who had one of his best games wearing Los Blancos colors.

Bale, erased from Real Madrid

Unlike what happened in 2018 and then this year during the parade in Cibeles, where Madrid celebrated having won La Liga title a few days ago, Gareth Bale was the biggest absent, as he didn’t attend the parade due to back spasms in the Spanish capital, and now, even if the Welsh international travelled with the team to Paris, he also missed the celebrations.

But just like it has happened since Carlo Ancelotti returned to Madrid, Bale was from the lineup, as he had to watch the game from the bench, an image that become usual during the current season, as he only played seven games in the season.

Once the referee blew the final whistle, everyone in Real Madrid’s side was cheering, except for Gareth Bale, who was waiting for the game to end to part ways with Los Blancos after joining them in 2013, as he is now a free agent for the first time in his career.
