The name Cristiano Ronaldo is still dominating headlines after Manchester United terminated his contract. Shortly after his second spell at Theatre of Dreams, reports of a move to European giant, Real Madrid emerged, however, the club was quick to dispel the move despite reigning Ballon d'or winner Karim Benzema been out injured, as players find it hard to fill his void.

Cristiano had a robust relationship with Real during his spell at Santiago Bernabeu before his exit from the club. His time at the club was glamorous, as he won the Spanish La Liga title, Supercopa de Espana and Copa del Rey, all twice. The most coveted European club trophy, UEFA champions league did not elude him as the Galacticos won it three times (consecutively) before adding another in 2018.

It was clear that manager, Zinedine Zidane wanted the legend to stay but it seemed the Portuguese was destined to move on with another club.

Cristiano's transfer debacle

Cristiano's wages was reduced at the start of the season at Manchester United but Real Madrid is financially bouyant to pay his weekly wages. Many perceived strained relationship with Perez as a  problem but Cristiano is aging and was seen as uncontrollable at Manchester United. Real Madrid keeping faith with Benzema, Rodrygo, Vinicius is not a big risk as the club is in the race to win the La Liga title this season.
