Nasser Al-Kheilafi ready to support Kylian Mbappe with Bernardo Silva transfer

With Messi and Neymar getting on in years, Mbappe may need younger players around him.

With Messi and Neymar getting on in years, Mbappe may need younger players around him.

It remains to be seen whether PSG's pursuit of Bernardo Silva will intensify or die a permanent death. The French club was linked with the Portuguese winger in the off-season only for a move to fall through the cracks. PSG faced competition from Barcelona for Silva's signature but in the end it is not clear who made an offer.

“There was only one offer,” Silva explained, which came right at the end of the summer transfer window when Manchester City could not find a suitable replacement for their versatile attacker. He is happy to remain at the Etihad where his relationship with Pep Guardiola could not be better. Silva regards his current club as one of the top three in the world so staying is not a difficult decision.

The big disappointments that PSG had in the transfer market

“It's a club I want to be at and I'm happy,” beamed the midfielder. It remains to be seen how long that will be the case since Guardiola has  a habit of refreshing talent. He would not want the rot that has set in at rivals Liverpool to affect his team, and one of the ways he has guarded against that is by moving players along.

The possibility of Silva's departure after five years should keep Barca and PSG on high alert. Any bidding war between the two clubs is sure to be won by Nasser Al-Kheilafi's bottomless pockets. The choice would be the player's as to whether he wants to compete in the stronger Primera Division, or earn millions in the relatively weaker Ligue Un.

Where would Bernardo Silva play at PSG?

It is unclear which of PSG's front three would benefit most from the playmaker's potential arrival. Kylian Mbappe may rival him for a position coming off the wing. Neymar might connect with him best speaking Portuguese, and Lionel Messi links up well with most players when attacks deep from the middle third of the pitch. The problem of finding a place for Bernardo Silva would be Cristophe Galtier's.
