The New York Times has published an interview with one of the most prominent footballers on the world stage: Kylian Mbappé. Much has been said this summer about the renewal of the French star with PSG and his rejection of Real Madrid, the club that had been after him for five years.
The American newspaper has also revealed the figures of the multimillion-dollar contract that PSG, backed by Qatar, offered the player from Bondy to convince him not to leave the French capital. According to this information Mbappé will be paid $250 million for the next three seasons, approximately $83 million per year, doubling what his teammate Lionel Messi earns in a year with PSG (approximately $40 million).

The unexpected criticism for both Lionel Messi and Paris Saint-Germain in France
Some of the headlines following his decision to stay with PSG said the money from Qatar was too much to resist, and the New York Times claims Mbappé received a signing bonus close to 125 million, the largest payment made to an out-of-contract player in the history of the sport.
However, he has insisted in this interview that the huge sums of money offered were not what guided them to make their final decision. "Because wherever I go they are going to give me money," he said.
Mbappé, who has also admitted that he was extremely surprised by the conversation he had with French President Emmanuel Macron, who tried to convince him by all means to stay at PSG, also added that all big decisions —and often small ones— are made after in-depth conversations with the only two advisors whose opinions really matter to him: his parents.
