Paris Saint-Germain are one of 10 clubs to be fined for breaching UEFA’s Financial Fair Play rules.

PSG’s problems continue. Although the sporting problems of the team seem to be fading away, now it is financial troubles that are affecting the Parisian team. More specifically, financial fair play issues that would have come to due the absurd wages that PSG pay its players.

The punishments to the team follow Kylian Mbappe's decision to sign a three-year deal with PSG earlier this year, keeping him in the French capital through 2025, although they also apply to previous seasons. Less than a year earlier, the French club had turned down a transfer bid from Real Madrid that would have set a world record for the highest-paid player in sport.

In addition to the ridiculous incentive of €180 million Mbappé received for staying with PSG, the French striker is also earning €50 million a year, making him the highest paid soccer player in the world

His PSG teammate Leo Messi was the highest-paid athlete in the world until Mbappé signed his new contract. During his first year in Paris, Messi earned a salary of €30 million, but for the second and final year of his two-year contract in Paris, he will get a salary of €40 million.

Huge fine for PSG

PSG suffered the highest fine in Europe, with a total of €65 million, followed by Roma (€35 million) and Inter (€26 million), according to the analysis of the 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021 and 2022 financial years made by the First Chamber of UEFA's Club Financial Control Committee.
