We are talking about one of the most beloved legends in the history of the best club in the world, Real Madrid. A player who was at the club for 14 seasons, and earned the love of the people by scoring 155 goals and also defending the shirt in more than 400 games.

That is the story of Amancio Amaro Varela,  former Real Madrid footballer who became a true legend after winning titles such as Real Madrid's sixth European Cup, nine Leagues and three Spanish Cups. In addition, he also knew how to defend the shield of Spain on 42 occasions, achieving the first European Championship in 1964.

Amancio retired from professional football in June 1976 and continued to be linked to football as the coach of Real Madrid Castilla, with whom he won the Second Division championship in the 1983/84 season. More than a year ago, he was named honorary president of the Santiago Bernabéu entity, however, now he sadly passed away.

Amancio is mourned by the football world

The Real Madrid legend passed away during the early hours of this Tuesday at the age of 83 and this was reported by the club: “Real Madrid C.F., its president and its Board of Directors deeply regret the death of Amancio Amaro, honorary president of the Real Madrid and one of the great legends of our club and world football", was part of the statement.
