Osimhen was Chelsea's preferred target to reinforce their attack, but the Blues began looking for other options last summer, when the Nigerian looked like he would renew his contract with the Italian team. Chelsea is targeting other forwards such as Ivan Toney, Santiago Giménez and Lautaro Martínez.

Osimhen's negotiations with Naples have become complicated and sources have confirmed to 90min that the Nigerian has little chance of accepting a contract renewal, which expires in 2025, despite his club's attempts. That has given Chelsea hope that they can sign Osimhen in 2024, and although it will most likely happen in the summer, the Blues are willing to tempt Napoli with an offer in January.

Chelsea know they would have to break their transfer record to sign 24-year-old Osimhen, whose value is estimated to exceed the €116 million invested in Brighton & Hove Albion's Moisés Caicedo last summer. Although Napoli want to retain Osimhen, they may have to entertain interest from Chelsea as the striker approaches the final 18 months of his contract.

The English have also shown interest in Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, who plays with Osimhen at Naples, and who is in talks to renew his contract. Napoli assures that they will not let their two best players go in the same year, and Osimhen is the one who has the best chance of leaving the Diego Armando Maradona stadium in 2024. Napoli's economic pretensions will influence Chelsea's next step, which will not tends to spend a lot, and might have to sell some players before going for any new signings.

The millions that Chelsea would pay for the player

Chelsea's performance in the Premier League has not lived up to expectations so far this season, and much of the blame lies on the lack of goals. Despite having talented forwards like Raheem Sterling and Nicolas Jackson, the team has struggled to convert opportunities into goals consistently. That is why they are willing to sign Osimhen, who has a value of 120 million euros according to the Transfermarkt portal.
