Lionel Messi saw his remarkable run of 63 Champions League games without being replaced come to an end after coach Christophe Galtier's decision to replace him in Paris Saint-Germain's win over Juventus on Tuesday.

After 83 minutes, the French coach brought on Spaniard Carlos Soler, who took the place of the Argentine superstar. According to 442, it had been eight years since Messi had been replaced in a Champions League match.

The last time the Argentine star had not played a full match was on October 21, 2014, when Barcelona beat Ajax 3-1 at Camp Nou, also in the group stage. That day, after scoring the second goal for the Catalan side, Messi was substituted in the 66th minute by the Spanish-Moroccan Munir El Haddadi.

It seems Messi will be substituted more often in PSG

What may be unbelievable to some is that it may become a normal occurrence in PSG, considering Galtier's latest decisions. The coach replaced Lionel Messi in three of his last four matches: against AS Monaco and Toulouse in Ligue 1; and the aforementioned against Juventus in the Champions League.
