If Jurgen Klopp were to leave Liverpool, Steven Gerrard and Xabi Alonso would be two of the most qualified people to take over as manager, according to Danny Murphy. The former Liverpool midfielder believes that they both can be ideal candidates for the club. Gerrard is currently the manager of Aston Villa, while Alonso just arrived at Bayer Leverkusen as a coach.

Steven Gerrard and Xabi Alonso are two of the most successful Liverpool players of all time. They both have experience playing at the highest level and have won trophies with the club. Gerrard is a Liverpool legend and is currently the manager of Aston Villa. In the Premier League, the Villians are struggling to find the pace and are really near the relegation zone, with only nine points acquired this season.

But everyone is aware he knows the club inside out and would be a popular choice with the fans. Alonso is currently working as a German side manager Bayer Leverkusen. He is a respected figure in the game and his tactical knowledge would be a valuable asset to any team.

What other managers could be considered for the Liverpool job

Although Murphy believes that both men have the qualities to be successful managers and would be great choices for Liverpool if Klopp does leave, he said they're maybe not prepared yet. He said the following: “I think Steven Gerrard or Xabi Alonso could manage Liverpool, absolutely, yeah. I don’t think either of them have probably done just enough yet to warrant that". Also on the shortlist for Klopp's success is ex-Reds manager Brendan Rodgers. Who will get Klopp's job?
