Erling Haaland's dream debut with Manchester City, his first Premier League win

Erling Haaland made his Premiership debut as expected, scoring twice to give Pep Guardiola's new Manchester City side a 2-0 win over West Ham on Sunday in the opening round of the 2022-23 English Championship. Haaland scored from a penalty in the 36th minute and after a great pass from Kevin de Bruyne in the 65', the first sign of what is set to be a great partnership in the 'citizen' team.

Although the initial 0-0 score remained on the scoreboard until the 36th minute, City (champions of England and winners of four of the last five editions of the Premier League) dominated intensely against a Hammer team that was dedicated to trying to defend and that found itself in the 29th minute with the problem posed by the injury of its goalkeeper, Lukasz Fabianski.

Erling Haaland took 36 minutes to score his first Premiership goal. He did it by converting a penalty that the 'hammer' goalkeeper, Alphonse Areola, committed on the Norwegian striker himself. Ilkay Gündogan, with whom Haaland combined, also played a key role in the move. Areola came on to replace the injured Fabianski.

The way was open for City, who had several chances, but extended their lead again thanks to Haaland, with a magnificent finish after a great combination with Kevin de Bruyne, who assisted him in a stellar way. It was already 65' and the game had become almost impossible for a West Ham side in which one of its great stars, Jarrod Bowen, did not have his afternoon.

City start off better than Liverpool

Haaland made his debut in his Premier League debut after joining City from Borussia Dortmund. The win did not escape a dominant City, while arch-rivals Liverpool were held to a 2-2 draw by Jürgen Klopp's Fulham at Craven Cottage on Saturday.
