Cristiano Ronaldo and Tyrone Mings appeared to partake in a wrestling match during the Manchester United vs Aston Villa game. Ronaldo and Mings were going head-to-head in the box as they had done all game, and the two got into a grappling match in the box, with both players refusing to let go. The officials checked for violent conduct but came out empty-handed.

It’s usually a sign of how little Ronaldo is involved in a game when he gets into little altercations with other players. The Portuguese has a petulant streak that rears its ugly head whenever he is not getting his way. After a performance which has widely been described as a flop, CR7 had more than enough reason to get his hands on Mings.

Mings, who is no angel, is no stranger to foul play, even though the defender has tempered his off-the-ball involvements since appearing in an England shirt. It appears he was eager to show Ronaldo that just because he has been on his best behaviour, it does not mean that he will not defend himself. Ronaldo had more reason to cause the fight than Mings had to start one.

The Villa defender was in a winning position. Both players ended up with a caution just in case they thought about trying it on afterwards. Manchester United and Aston Villa players had to intervene so the incident was not exactly innocuous. The fiery incident in the 59th minute was Ronaldo's most significant contribution to the game.

My shirt or yours?

Both players were stationed in the Villa penalty area, with Alejandro Garancho possessing the ball and waiting to produce a cross. Instead of waiting for the ball to be delivered, both players appeared to grab each other by the shirt and were then involved in a brief tangle. They could have swapped shirts after the game, but it had to be then.
