This Wednesday, FC Barcelona won 1-0 against Porto in the match corresponding to the second matchday of the UEFA Champions League group stage. But, in the last few hours, a stir was generated by the statements made by the former spanish referee Mateu Lahoz in reference to the decisions made by his english colleague in said match.
Porto-Barça had several actions that put Anthony Taylor in trouble. Game situations that were in a gray area, difficult to assess, and that generated a lot of noise on the networks during, and after, the match. And it was the former spanish referee Mateu Lahoz who made public his opinion regarding some of the actions that were covered in controversy.
Lahoz referred to two specific situations in which the decision of Anthony Taylor played a leading role. Firstly, one of the situations that raised controversy was which there is a struggle in the area between Koundé and Porto forward, Taremi. In the image everybody can see how when the forward tries to turn, Koundé grabs his shirt for a few seconds and then places his leg between the forward's thighs. The second, was a handball from the portuguese Joao Cancelo and a possible penalty that Taylor finally did not whistle.
Lahoz was present on Movistar + and he referred to the situations that generated a stir. Regarding the first, he pointed out that there was contact, but the difficulty lies in interpreting whether it was enough to make the Porto striker fall: "Koundé takes a risk. If Taylor calls for a penalty, there's nothing to say. It's a gray action". As for the second, Taylor, after consulting the action at VAR, ended up invalidating Cancelo's hand because he understood that in Eustaquio's previous action, the control included the hand. In any case, it is also not clear that Cancelo's handball was inside the area. Regarding what happened, Lahoz said: "I am left with doubts about Cancelo's handball. I don't know if it was Eustaquio's previous handball. In the shots I see... it is a legal part. It would be Cancelo's handball and a penalty/foul".
