Fabio Capello, renowned former Italian coach, recalled his second step at the helm of Real Madrid and held nothing back. The Italian lasted only one season (2006-2007) that was full of conflicts with the main figures of the white team and now he explained why he fired the legendary brazilian striker Ronaldo.
In mid-2006, they hired Fabio Capello with the aim of ending a three-year drought without titles, thus facing his second stage at the club after having won the League in the first, during the 1996-1997 season. At the end of the 2006/07 campaign it worked, as the team ended up winning the Spanish League that season. However, not everything was rosy for the Italian or the team, because during that year several internal conflicts developed in the spanish capital.
The Italian coach recalled the most resonant episodes of his second stage at Real Madrid within the framework of the inauguration of the academic year at the University Institute of Linguistic Mediators (Limec). He revealed details about Ronaldo's departure in February 2007: "I decided to fire him, he was someone who liked to party and involved the group. He weighed 94 kilos that year. In the 2002 World Cup, he weighed 82. I told him to lose weight. weight and reached 92.5".
In that sense, he highlighted the confession made to him by one of the galactic stars that he had previously made known: “One day, Ruud van Nistelrooy arrived and told me 'sir, it smells like alcohol here in the locker room'. It was true". Without a doubt, Ronaldo was the main obstacle for Capello, who ended up showing him the exit door.
After this, AC Milan showed interest in Ronaldo and Capello, idol of the Italian institution, tried to avoid it by all means, recommending that they not sign him: “Berlusconi called me one day to ask me for advice on a hypothetical purchase. I advised him against it, telling him that he was a party animal, that he only thought about women. He told me 'okay, thank you Fabio'. The next day: Ronaldo in Milan”, he said.
