FC Cincinnati, the MLS club that holds Marco Angulo's contract, has issued a statement expressing deep concern for the player's health. Angulo, 22, is currently in the intensive care unit in Quito, Ecuador, with his prognosis still uncertain.
Marco Angulo, a product of Ecuador's Independiente del Valle academy, rose through the ranks by playing for their U-20 team, Independiente B, and their reserve squad, Independiente Jrs. In January 2023, he was transferred to FC Cincinnati for a reported fee of USD 2.8 million. However, he struggled to establish himself in the MLS and, in March 2024, was loaned out to Liga de Quito. The loan deal is set to expire on December 12, 2024.
Upon learning of the accident, FC Cincinnati promptly released an official statement. “The FC Cincinnati family is devastated to learn that Marco Angulo has been hospitalized following a car accident in Ecuador. He remains under the care of medical professionals in Quito, and FCC is working to gather more information and provide any support we can for Marco,” the club’s message reads.
The club's statement also conveyed its condolences to those affected by the accident. “Our thoughts are with him and his family as we await his recovery. Our hearts go out to the families of those who lost their lives and those injured in this tragic accident,” it continued.
Since joining Liga de Quito, Angulo has participated in various competitions, including Copa Ecuador, LigaPro, and international tournaments such as the CONMEBOL Sudamericana and Libertadores. Despite his efforts, he has struggled to secure a starting position in the squad.
