The most successful teams in MLS history

Despite the fact that MLS was founded in 1993, there are a couple of teams that have managed to get their names etched in recent history as the most winning teams in the most important league in the United States and Canada. However, there are also some teams that have managed to break barriers in the MLS.

Teams with the most MLS championships:

LA Galaxy  

The LA Galaxy stand out for two reasons: renowned signings and for being the team with the most titles in MLS history. The Galaxy has a total of 5 championships (2002, 2005, 2011, 2012, 2014) and 4 second places.

DC United

The capital squad follows closely behind the Galaxy and is the only team in a position to take the throne. DC United has a record of four titles (1996, 1997, 1999, 2004) and only one runner-up finish.

Seattle Sounders FC

Seattle is one of the teams that started winning a couple of titles in a short period of time with the help of important foreign players. They won in 2016 and 2019. In addition, they defeated Pumas in the 2022 Conca Champions Final, the first in MLS history.

Houston Dynamo

The Houston Dynamo is one of the teams that began to fall by the wayside, as they only won two league titles in the 2006 and 2007 campaigns. The last time they came close to adding another championship to their trophy cabinet was in 2012.

Sporting Kansas City

Their first championship came in 2000, when they defeated Chicago Fire by the minimum difference; it took 13 years for them to win the MLS Cup again, and they did it against Real Salt Lake.

San Jose Earthquakes

The 2001 and 2003 campaigns were special for this franchise, since they were crowned MLS champions after defeating LA Galaxy and Chicago Fire, respectively.
