MLS 2022 transfers could bring a surprise to MLS, as Lorenzo Insigne could arrive at Toronto FC, according to Italian media reports.
The news was revealed by media outlet Corriere dello Sport thanks to an interview with Insigne's manager, Vincenzo Pisacane.
According to the words of the Italian representative, they do not believe the treatment that the player is receiving at the club is fair since he is not being offered the amount that the player deserves for the next few years.
Pisacane was very emphatic and assured that nothing has been decided for the future of his client.
Another important reason why Il Gigante de Napoli would be considering a move to MLS is the economic offer that The Reds have put on the table.
Although the offer itself has not been disclosed, it is known that the previous time the team bid for the Italian Calcio star, Insigne received an offer of $15 million from Toronto FC.
While on the previous occasion the offer did not arouse the player's interest, now that he feels Napoli is not giving him what he deserves, it could be a good opportunity to review it.
And the best evidence that the offer this time did reach Insigne's ears was the statements his agent gave in the interview. His words were:
"It is not right that Lorenzo has to become a mercenary. There have been many rumors about offers coming from Toronto and, consequently, from MLS (...) After so many years playing for a team in a certain league, it is difficult to wear any other jersey right there".
Vincenzo Pisacane concluded: "Therefore, an experience abroad would be less painful. Just as Del Piero did at the time makes it a possibility, I think so".
The manager was blunt and stated that if anything should be said about the striker's future, it will be on January 2, 2022, when the market is active.
Insigne's manager's mention of Alessandro del Piero was a reference to when the 2006 FIFA World Cup winner left Italian soccer.
Del Piero played for teams like Australia's Sydney FC, and then India's former Delhi Dynamos, which now uses the name Odisha FC.
Insigne's track record is enough for any MLS team to fight for him. The player has two Italian Cups, an Italian Super Cup, and even a European Championship on his list of trophies.
This UEFA Euro 2020 was his consecration in the Azzurri squad, as he played 6 games as a starter, scored two goals, and shot 16 times to the rival goals. He also recovered 27 balls from opponents' feet.
His career with Napoli has also been successful: the 30-year-old has scored 89 goals in 319 appearances for Maradona's former club.
With this track record, the striker's dissatisfaction with his current team is understandable.
With all these factors combined, it is now more likely than ever that Lorenzo Insigne will arrive in MLS.
And if Toronto FC manages to make the Italian a strong offer, we could see him in MLS in 2022.
