Transfers do not stop for MLS 2022 and today it was announced that the suspense is over, as Carlos Salcedo arrives at Toronto FC, a team that has already presented him through its social networks.
MLS transfer rumors: Yeferson Soteldo one foot out of Toronto FC
The announcement by the Reds puts an end to weeks of speculation among Liga MX and MLS fans, so the Canadian team can finally boast Salcedo as part of its roster.
The Mexican central defender arrives at the Major League Soccer club as a Designated Player through the 2024 season, with an option to renew in 2025.
While the transfer is set, Salcedo will join the Reds roster until his International Transfer Certificate (ITC) and work permits are ready.
Per team and Major League Soccer policy, the terms of the contract are confidential, However, what is known is that this move also marks the departure of Yeferson Soteldo from Toronto FC, who will now play in Liga MX with Tigres, under the orders of Miguel Herrera.
This ends the suspense between the two institutions, although the question of how Salcedo's biggest complaint about the move was resolved remains in the air.
A few days ago it was revealed by sports commentator David Medrano that the "Titan" wanted the Tigres team to pay him 10 percent of the total value of his transfer to the MLS club, following FIFA regulations.
Although this version has not yet been made official by the club or the player, it would not be strange if this had been the reason for the delay in his departure, as the same thing happened with Alan Pulido and Chivas.
But unlike what happened with the "Titan", Pulido did sue Chivas in order to obtain that 10 percent of the total value of his transfer to Sporting Kansas City of the MLS.
What is a fact is that Salcedo will be able to play in Major League Soccer and will be a teammate of Lorenzo Insigne, who will join Toronto FC in the summer of 2022.
Toronto FC president Bill Manning spoke about what the player's arrival represents for the Reds.
In a press release, Manning said, "Carlos is a fierce competitor who I have known since he was a young player at Real Salt Lake seven years ago."
Manning also said of his arrival, "He has won numerous trophies, including the German Cup with Eintracht Frankfurt and the CONCACAF Champions League with Tigres. Carlos is one of the best defenders in the CONCACAF region and will immediately improve our back line as we build for 2022 and beyond."
On behalf of Yeferson Soteldo, Toronto FC thanked its now former player, who will now play in Liga MX with Tigres, one of the most powerful and dominant teams in the tournament.
The 24-year-old winger will report to Miguel Herrera when his participation with Venezuela ends, at the end of the CONMEBOL World Cup Qualifiers.
