Driussi, born in San Justo in 1996 and made in River Plate, is the top scorer in MLS with fourteen goals and is one of the stars that participated in the All-Star.

In his second year in MLS, after playing four seasons with Zenit St. Petersburg, Driussi made a key contribution to Austin's second-place finish in the Western Conference behind Los Angeles FC of Mexico's Carlos Vela and Welshman Gareth Bale.

When Argentine striker Sebastian Driussi left European soccer for a move to Major League Soccer in the United States there were wary looks about the potential he could achieve. But the former River player seems to have found a place that is quite suited for him: he keeps scoring goals in the Austin jersey and tops the league's scoring charts with 17 goals.

How old is Driussi?

Of course, his latest goal put him in a place of honor for the consideration of Austin fans (and U.S. soccer fans as well). The 26-year-old San Justo native was the star of the show at Austin's Q2 Stadium. His team was losing 3-1 against Sporting Kansas City, but not only did they manage to equalize the match, but Driussi scored -in the fourth minute of stoppage time- the agonizing winning goal, with a precise touch inside the box, unleashing euphoria.

"Driussi is extremely important for this group. He's extremely important to this league when you see what he's capable of doing and what he's been doing since he's been here," celebrated Austin head coach Josh Wolff. In the locker room of the Texan franchise everything was euphoria and relief.

MVP candidate

Driussi, according to the U.S. sports press, is emerging as the leading candidate to become MLS Landon Donovan's Most Valuable Player in 2022. In addition to 17 goals, he boasts seven assists. Driussi's goal came as Austin faced a three-game home winless streak.

The victory allowed the Texas team to reach 48 points in the Western Conference and to be the only one behind the leader, Los Angeles Football Club, which has 54 points. There are still nine games left in the regular season.
