Even at 32, Carlos Vela is one of the best active players that Mexico has right now, but his decision of stepping down from Mexico National Team will be hard to overcome as Gerardo “Tata” Martino needs a player with his skillset to have a successful run in Qatar 2022.
Vela decided to retire from El Tri but Martino vetoed him first
But for Vela, El Tri is a chapter closed in his life and now is focusing in giving his best to Los Angeles FC, team that he joined back in 2018, when they first debuted in MLS. In the 2019 MLS Season, Carlos Vela established the record of most goals in a single campaign, with 34, which also helped him to be the MLS MVP of the season.
Now, on his fifth year as a Designated Player for the Black & Gold, Carlos Vela was the protagonist of the reveal of LAFC’s new jersey, commemorating their fifth season in US top flight, although it’s yet to be seen if Vela ends the season in Banc of California Stadium.
Although LAFC took up the option of a fifth year in Carlos Vela’s contract, this will finalize over the summer, which is why at least 5 Liga MX clubs are pursuing his addition for Apertura 2022, including Monterrey, Tigres, Club América, Cruz Azul and Chivas.
