After a wonderful season in 2019-20 Carlos Vela got injured and could not make it to almost any match of this season. The expectations were really low about how would he return and recover from the injury and the pandemic suspension. Well, apparently Vela is on the same level that he was before.
Last match, the Mexican forward played 20 minutes from the bench against the LA Galaxy and scored one goal. After such a return, fans were asking if he would be a starter from now on, but the Bob Bradley has different ideas. He considers that the player needs to take it slow.
The coach said at a press conference that they do not want to overload Vela because that might mean another injury to him, and maybe an even more dangerous injury. It is important to remember that he is 31 years old, he is no longer a wonderkid. Although, that also means that he know his body and he would not play if he is at risk.
LAFC right now is in a comfortable fifth spot on the table with 28 points, but they do not have ease matches ahead. The team has to face Dynamo Houston, SJ Earthquakes and finally, Portland Timbers. Vela could use these matches to relax and maybe play some minutes from the bench as a preparation for the postseason.
