With Edson Álvarez playing the entire match, Ajax beat Heracles, while Erick Gutiérrez's PSV lost to AZ Alkmaar

Ajax strengthened their lead in the Eredivisie after beating Heracles 3-0 at the Amsterdam Arena, in a match corresponding to Matchday 21. Edson Álvarez played all 90 minutes and had an outstanding performance.

In the 90th minute, Edson Álvarez came close to scoring a great goal. The Mexican player controlled the ball with his chest on the edge of the area and sent a right-footed shot that crashed against the crossbar. 

Ajax Amsterdam are slowly but surely on their way to another championship. With this result, Ajax remains at the top of the championship with 51 points, while its closest rival, PSV, which also just lost to AZ Alkmaar, stays in second place with 46 points.

Erick Gutierrez did not play in PSV’s lost

PSV Eindhoven, the team where Mexican Erick Gutiérrez plays, lost 2-1 at home against AZ Almaar. This result has considerably affected their aspirations to take the lead in the competition.

Although they took the lead thanks to a goal by Obispo, the visitors came from behind to even the score and then turn the score around. The goals came from Martins Indi and Karlsson. 

Prior to the FIFA break, PSV had lost a match against Ajax. Now, with two defeats in a row, they are in second place, five points behind leaders Ajax.

Mexico's Gutiérrez was called up and was present on the bench, but did not come on as a substitute. It should be recalled that he was called up by El Tri for the three days of qualifying matches.
