Mexico National Team will play the last World Cup Qualifiers match window next week when they receive USMNT in Estadio Azteca on March 24. Then, they will visit Honduras on March 27 and will return to Estadio Azteca on March 30 to close their participation against El Salvador.
The players that will finally have the chance to prove themselves in Mexico National Team
Gerardo “Tata” Martino revealed yesterday the roster that will be available for the three games and although there were surprises like the decision of leaving Rogelio Funes Mori, Luis “Chaka” Rodríguez, and Julio César “Cata” Domínguez out of the team, there were also players that weren’t even considered.
Some of the absences that stand out the most are the ones of Carlos Acevedo, especially after Martino decided to call four different goalkeepers, and Marcelo Flores, who keeps showing that he’s one of the most talented players El Tri currently has.
It seems like Martino keeps valuing experience over talent, as he decided to give Rodolfo Pizarro the place that Andrés Guardado won’t be able to take due to an injury that has kept him sidelined for the past few weeks.
Although the 18-year-old offensive midfielder has showed his commitment to play with Mexico National Team, he still has the chance of wearing Canada colors if he decided to, as he has the nationality given that his mother is Canadian.
The Maple Leaf team has pursued his addition to their national team for a while now, as they’re trying to build one of the most competitive rosters in their history, with players like Alphonso Davies and Tajon Buchanan.
Canada currently stands first in CONCACAF and is the only team with their ticket to Qatar 2022 already secured, as they have 25 points after 11 games and are the only team that remains unbeaten, an accomplishment they will try to maintain after the last three games.
Martino already considered him to be part of the senior squad for a friendly match, where Flores debuted and played the last 10 minutes of the game. For now, it seems like Marcelo will remain committed to El Tri, as he’s going to be part of the U-20 squad that will play against Uruguay and USYNT.
