Gerardo Martino's preliminary list for Qatar 2022 is now official. The coach has presented his 31 selected players to play their last friendly before the World Cup in November. The list is final and of the 31 selected, only 26 will travel to the competition in Qatar.

In that sense, the great absence of the Mexican team is LAFC striker Carlos Vela. The Mexican striker seems to have kept his word that he will not be available for the World Cup, preferring to give his place to someone else. However, it has been revealed who is really responsible for Vela not being in Qatar 2022.

The Mexican's profile within the dressing room of El Tri is apparently not the most liked. For this reason, he would not have demanded any kind of suggestion to the federation or Gerardo Martino to convince the player to change his mind and be in the 2022 World Cup. Since one of his indiscipline in previous call-ups, players like Ochoa or Guardado prefer Vela away from El Tri.

Is Vela completely ruled out for Qatar?

The preliminary list of 31 players is the only list of eligible players that FIFA considers for the final call-up. The only way Vela can attend Qatar 2022 is if one of these 31 players is seriously injured. Something that, according to FIFA regulations, is valid for any player in the country.
