Érick Gutiérrez is in line to take Héctor Herrera's place against El Salvador next Wednesday in the Mexican national team's final match of the World Cup qualifiers.
Héctor Herrera will miss the Tricolor's match against an eliminated El Salvador team on its way to the World Cup, due to an accumulation of yellow cards.
It should be recalled that in a midfield play during Sunday's match between the Mexican national team and the 'Catrachos' at the Estadio Olímpico Metropolitano in San Pedro Sula, Honduras, the Atlético de Madrid midfielder received his second caution.
Herrera had earned his first yellow card in the previous match against Panama, so he will be suspended for the match against the Salvadorans.
Thus, since he is not eligible for the next match, 'Tata' Martino will use the PSV Eindhoven midfielder.
The PSV player has been the recurring change of 'Tata' Martino, so he has shown confidence in the former Pachuca player. Everything points to the fact that, due to HH's suspension, Erick Gutierrez will play in midfield alongside Edson Álvarez and Charly Rodríguez.
In addition, the PSV player came on as a substitute in Sunday's match, alongside Henry Martín. Both came on in the 81st minute to replace Hirving Lozano and Raúl Jiménez.
Likewise, in the last game, against the United States, 'Guti' was also a substitute and came on for Carlos Rodríguez.
Gutiérrez had not taken part in the previous FIFA Date, although he was called up.
The Mexican national team arrived early in the morning at the CAR from Honduras and got ready to rest.
Monday's training session is scheduled for 5 p.m. and until then it will be seen in what condition the players returned, to see who the coaching staff headed by Gerardo Martino has at its disposal for the match against El Salvador.
