Gerardo “Tata” Martino has been criticized during his stint as Mexico National Team coach for many reasons, from his refusal to call young players although they can contribute to areas El Tri currently suffers, to him calling back the same players that don’t feel the colors.
Carlos Vela hasn’t closed the door to Mexico National Team, but Martino doesn’t want him
Currently, Mexico National Team stands third in CONCACAF Qualifiers, 4 points behind Canada and tied with USMNT, with 21 points, although the Bars and Stripes have a better goal difference. But El Tri has won only two of their last 5 games, which has led them to the situation they currently are.
At times, Martino’s team looks confused on the pitch, and they much rather wait for their rival to make a mistake instead of pressuring them, something that should be the other way around as they play against much smaller teams in CONCACAF. But that doesn’t seem to make Guillermo Ochoa question the project and system of Gerardo Martino. Instead, the Mexican goalkeeper backs up the Argentinian coach.
It’s obvious that Guillermo Ochoa is one of the most favored players in “Tata” Martino’s system, as the 35-year-old goalkeeper is one of his favorites and won’t lose his place in the starting XI for as long as Martino is on the Aztec bench.
USMNT will have an advantage on their next game against El Tri, as Lozano won’t be available
